Cape Chamomile

Herbaceous, fruity and sweet but with powerful camphor and musk aromas and a hint of patchouli – the comforting, fragrant smell of the Cape’s fynbos vegetation is captured in this plant. Cape Chamomile can soothe inflammation, or dampen allergic reactions. It also calms the mind providing mental clarity, improves memory, relieves stress and can enhance sleep.

TRADITIONAL USES

Used medicinally to restore emotional balance, alleviate earache, colds, stomach aches and lymph congestion, as a diaphoretic and diuretic, and to improve circulation. Used as teas or culinary herbs or as a decoction for skin and hair.

BOTANICAL INFO

Cape Chamomile (Eriocephalus spp) is a large dense shrub with narrow silvery leaves and a profusion of white fluffy flowers in Spring.

Cape Chamomile is best known as an essential oil which is used in aromatherapy for its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. These days it is also becoming popular as a culinary herb and can be enjoyed as a tea on its own or in a blend with other ingredients.
